Tips for Responsible Trash Disposal

Trash is something that is a daily problem that everyone deals with, but most of us usually take for granted. For instance, everyone should be aware and involved in sorting and disposing of their trash responsibly, otherwise pollution would become an even greater issue than it is today without the help of the conservation and environmental awareness campaigns of the last two decades.

Recycling – this is a no-brainer by now for any Millennial or Gen-Y baby. Recycling reduces your waste pollution and reduces your environmental burden on your surroundings. This reduces your trash volume and helps to minimize disposal processing centers, while you can also help other parts of your community aside from the local recycling centers by giving them your recyclable materials that others can use besides yourself.

Reduce Food Waste – this actually makes up the majority of what we find noxious about our garbage. Reducing this by composting or using a garbage disposal unit helps to minimize air pollution and keeps rodents, pests, and spread of infectious diseases as well.

Get Rid of Garbage Odors – whether you use dryer sheets, kitty litter, or the tried and tested baking soda on the surface, it’s generally a good idea to prevent bad smells in your garbage bins.

Rent Garbage Bins – renting your own trash cans or garbage bins actually is a good idea especially as it minimizes the need to clean your own garbage containers if you are only using them for a temporary duration. There are some businesses that cater to garbage bin rentals in cities like Toronto.

Clean your Garbage Bins – if you do find yourself needing to clean your own trash bins or containers consider drilling a hole in them, especially if they’re placed outdoors. This enables you to clean them more efficiently with the water draining out through the hole instead of tipping them over with the dirty water to rinse them. Make sure not to miss a trash day, as that would be the most ideal time to clean them as they would most likely be empty.
